Description
The two sparkling wines, Cuvée Katharina and Cuvée Marie-Luise, are the signature cuvées of our estate.
Cuvée Marie-Luise is an elegant Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Noir, traditionally named after the first daughter, Marie-Luise. This sparkling wine comes from our vineyards around Flörsheim-Dalsheim, growing on typical Terra Fusca and limestone soils.
The cuvée shows charming complexity and fine aromas, as our Pinot Noir vines can reach optimal ripeness here, developing an exciting acidity structure. On the palate, Cuvée Marie-Luise is defined by its elegant fruit character — particularly notes of pear, apricot chutney, and small red berries. It’s an elegant, delicate sparkling wine that remains present on the palate thanks to its fine, persistent mousse.
Vintage 2019
Nature offered us a late flowering in mid-June this year. A dry winter and an equally dry spring set the stage, and the vines responded to these conditions by producing small but extremely promising berries. A warm, dry summer followed, naturally reducing yields. The small berries, surrounded by thick skins, promised lower juice extraction but also an exceptional concentration of flavor and aroma. Then came the turning point — late summer rain, accompanied by cool nights, slowed down ripening and gave the grapes time to develop full flavor depth. Expectations grew as the berries became plump and juicy, despite the initial challenges. Yields were over 30 percent lower than in previous years, but the quality of the grapes was outstanding. The small berries and their thick skins produced excellent musts that thrilled us as sparkling wine producers. It was a harvest shaped by patience and nature, and the results were remarkable. As late summer came to a close, we were gifted with ideal harvest conditions in September.
